a blind step away

When you wake up on Friday, you will have woken up into a different world to the one you went to sleep in on Thursday night.  Whatever your politics - for us, the world will have changed.

I hope you have followed your heart as well as your head.  And resolved any conflict therein.

No matter what the result - many of us have children: and it's their world we are hoping to improve.   We must not despair, as long as we have voted: we have a voice. Whatever the result, let's be positive. In the words of Alasdair Gray:

Work like you were living in the early days of a better nation.

Good night and may you sleep easily knowing that you have the courage of your convictions.

There is always hope. The news isn't that bad - let them screw up. It will all work out in the end.

Relax. . .

If I was a Lib Dem -- which, thankfully, I'm not, though I did vote for them to keep a Tory out (unsuccessfully) -- I'd be pretty bloody fed up. What a disappointment, what a dilemma!

I love this line "the people have spoken"... Yes, but unfortunately all at once.

As you say, it'll be OK. At least it might put the skids under the worst public sector spending cuts. If they touch my pension, though, it's WAR, I tell you!

"I did vote for them" - but didn't inhale?

As a public servant - I shudder to think what's going to happen. Our futures are far from secure. Maybe we're reaching an age where we can do something else usefully and have a better "quality of life". That's what the old mobile bedsit is about.

Yes, higher ed is going to be first in line, too -- no-one likes a smart-arse.

Everyone in my partner's department is already being asked to re-apply for their own job, with the intention of finding 5 redundancies and the cuts haven't even started yet!

I have been giving serious thought to dropping out (finally!) for some years, so your RV strikes a chord with me. If I were a teacher, I'd grab the opportunity while it's still there.
